The Singapore Sports Council is at the helm in making sports a way of life among Singaporeans, raising the standard of sports excellence in Singapore and building a thriving sports industry that will impact Sporting Singapore in a positive way. Here are just some of the many milestones that have impacted the development and promotion of sports:
1973 Opening of the National Stadium & Formation of the Singapore Sports Council
1993 Implementation of the Sports Excellence programme SPEX 2000
1996 Launch of Sports For Life Programme by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong
2000 Creation of the Ministry of Community Development and Sports with Mr Abdullah Tarmugi as Singapore's first Sports Minister.
