Learning Objectives

Few hobbies enjoy an appeal as universal as stamp-collecting, particularly among school children. Stamps tell stories of a nation's history, culture and way of life. A visit to the Singapore Philatelic Museum will help to stimulate students' interest in philately and instill in them a sense of national identity, and pride in our national history and heritage.

The multimedia, interactive exhibits at the museum will show students how stamps are designed and produced, and how mail is delivered in Singapore. Students will get to design and print their own stamps, even become part of one! At the end of the visit, students would have gained a deeper appreciation of the multiple functions of stamps as tools of communication, objects of beauty and chroniclers of history.

Learning Site
Singapore Philatelic Museum was officially opened on 19 August
1995. SPM showcases the rare collections of world-class philatelists and Singapore's very own collection of stamps, philatelic materials and postal history artefacts since the time of the Straits Settlements. The Museum's public programmes department offers a raft of educational programmes including guided tours, heritage trails, camps, talks and workshops for schools, tourists and the public.
