Learning Objectives

Civil Defence is one component of Total Defence. Like military defence, the skills of civil defence personnel and the operational procedures of SCDF have to be constantly honed and developed in peacetime.

The visit to the fire station will make pupils aware of the many different roles of SCDF. More importantly, pupils will understand that a sophisticated Civil Defence system, manned by personnel on round-the-clock standby, has been set up to cater for any emergency. It is one aspect of Singapore the pupil is unlikely to know, and the visit will help to engender pride in the nation.

The visit to the gallery at the Central Fire Station which is part of the Civic Distric Heritage Trail will enable the pupil to learn about Singapore Civil Defence Force's (SCDF) history as well as increase the pupil's awareness of civil defence.

Learning Site

SCDF comprises its Headquarters, the Fire Safety and Shelter Department, a Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART), four civil defence divisions and 14 fire stations. Its major peacetime role is to provide emergency services, namely fire-fighting, rescue and ambulance services.

At the gallery, there are customised interactive stations which invite the pupils to experience what fire fighters and rescuers undergo in an operation. The gallerys public education corner will provide you and your family with all the necessary information on how to handle emergencies. There is a tour of the past which includes the latest fire fighting and rescue technology used by the SCDF.

Embark on a tour of the past at the Civil Defence Heritage Gallery, and also learn about the latest fire fighting and rescue technology developed and used by the SCDF. Customised interactive stations invite you for a close-up experience of what fire fighters and rescuers undergo in an operation. Look out for the gallery's public education corner, which will provide you and your family with all necessary information on how to handle emergencies.

In addition, SCDF builds up and maintains its operational capability and readiness, strives to increase public awareness and participation in civil defence activities, and promotes fire safety.

The mission of the SCDF is to protect and save lives and property for a safe and secure Singapore.
