The Parliament of Singapore is housed in a new building completed in 1999. Situated just beside the Singapore River, it lies on one of the oldest inhabited areas in Singapore. With its colonnade facade, tiled roofs and clad in grey granite, the House looks dignified and blends in with the surrounding colonial buildings in the Civic District area. |

Inside, the Parliament House is a functional building with modern and practical facilities for Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as the public. The Chamber has a sophisticated audio-visual system, robotic television cameras, electronic voting system and IT links for easy communication and fast access of information. The Parliament is about the people, and this is reflected in the amenities available to the public including a cafeteria, underground carpark, increased seating capacity in the Public and Press Gallery, a new Press Room, Education Gallery, auditorium and mock Parliament Room.
Inside these rooms, the laws of Singapore are discussed and shaped, ideas are debated and Government's policies, programmes and budget are scrutinised. Parliament is one of organs of state, the other two being the Executive and the Judiciary. Together they help ensure a good and responsible government. |
