Singapore is recognised internationally as a tropical Garden City. Despite the demands for housing and economic developments, Singapore has succeeded to balance urbanisation with parks and greenery development.
NParks' main objectives of introducing these tours are:
- to introduce students to the history and creation of our Garden City
- to inform and educate students on Singapore's vision and planning of a
City in a Garden
- to share with students how we balance nature with physical development
- to educate the students to value and care for this greenery
- to create awareness on the importance of conserving our natural heritage
- to develop and nurture a sense of commitment and ownership of parks and
greenery among students
- to promote students' interests and knowledge on flora and fauna
NParks' challenge is to provide greenery on our island to make it a garden for all Singaporeans to enjoy. It is a challenge that NParks would like to share with our young. |

NParks manages about 1,800 ha of parks, park connectors and open spaces, and 3,326 ha of the Nature Reserves. Our roadside greenery is the backbone of our Garden City programme, and the Board maintains more than 4,000 ha of roadside greenery and vacant state land. NParks also owns the Singapore Botanic Gardens and Fort Canning Park, and is the trustee for the Nature Reserves.
NParks is also responsible for conserving and promoting our nature areas, including Pulau Ubin, the Nature Reserves and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, as sanctuaries for wildlife, for plant and animal conservation, and as valuable resources for education and outdoor recreational activities.
