Learning Objectives

Visits to the National Heritage Boards (NHB) museums and institutions enable pupils to have a better understanding of Singapores national history and awareness of Singapores cultural fabric. Through original artefacts and interesting exhibition displays, pupils' cognitive understanding and affective responses can be enhanced, resulting in enriching learning experiences. These visits also help pupils to realise NHB's primary role in preservation and dissemination of Singapore's past for posterity. In this way, NHB can be a positive partner in the creation and development of a sense of belonging to Singapore amongst our young.

Learning Site
As the custodian of Singapore's history, NHBs key tasks are to preserve the history of Singapore and promote an understanding and appreciation of the origins, cultures and traditions of all Singaporeans. Established as a statutory board in August 1993 under the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts ( MICA ), NHB's two main arms are the National Archives of Singapore and the National Museum of Singapore.

The National Museum comprises three component museums: the National Museum of Singapore (NMS), the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM Empress Place) and the Singapore Art Museum (SAM). NHB institutions include the National Archives of Singapore (NAS) which maintains all official records of Singapore's history, and the Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) which houses and takes care of Singapore's heritage collections. From April 2000, Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM) became a subsidiary of NHB. Two WW2 Interpretative Centres joined the NHB family: the Reflections at Bukit Chandu (RBC) in February 2001 and Memories at Old Ford Factory (MOFF) in February 2006.

Together, the NHB museums and institutions hope to make heritage an enriching part of everyone's life.
