Learning Objectives

Looking for a place to bring your students? What about a place where learning about health is made fun and easy? Read on to see why HealthZone is a good choice if youre planning an entertaining and educational trip.

HealthZone is the only healthy lifestyle exhibition centre in Singapore where you can learn about good health through interactive displays and colourful models. HealthZone aims to show visitors of all ages how their health behaviours affect their health and to equip them with the motivation, tips and skills to practise good health habits for life.

In addition to the exhibition, HealthZone conducts health education sessions (also known as Health Studio Sessions) which emphasize the learning of practical health-promoting skills. These sessions also serve to complement the schools health education curriculum. (More information on the Health Studio Sessions can be found below.)

Learning Site

The exhibition centre covers an area of about 1,000 square metres. It comprises a variety of colourful displays and interesting interactives. Lively multimedia presentations are also used to communicate health information in a manner that is entertaining and memorable to people of all ages, especially the young.

The exhibition covers nine individual health theme areas. A synopsis on each area is listed below:
  • At Fitness Funhouse, you get to learn about your body mass index, how to measure your waist-to-hip ratio and your heart rate. Youll also meet a Sumo wrestler waiting to play tug-of-war with you. Come to this zone if you wish to analyze your current fitness level, find out what are the exercises suitable for you and also learn more about the different components of fitness.
  • If you are conscious about the food you eat then you mustnt miss the Exciting Eatery. Here you learn to analyze the nutritional content of some of the food you eat daily and also find out what are the healthier food choices available. You will also learn how to read food labels so as to help you make better food choices. Check out what advice the kitchen has to offer on healthier cooking tips, food safety and proper food storage too.
  • Find out the health and social consequences of smoking and drug abuse at the Addiction Mall. A crashed car scene marks this zone and serves as a useful reminder of the consequences of substance abuse. See the different types of drugs and learn to recognize the tell tale signs of drug addiction.
  • Fear visiting the dentist? Dont worry. Visit the Tooth Terrain and pick up some good dental health habits. This will probably make life easier for your dentist and for yourself.
  • Our eyes are precious because they are our windows to the world. Take good care of them and theyll work long and well for you. The Vision Vista will train you towards better eye etiquette. You can test your vision there too. See if you need a new pair of glasses and check if you are suffering from colour blindness.
  • Ever found it hard to explain growing up issues with your students? Why not let the Puberty Passage do the job? This zone explores issues like the process of growth of a fetus into a baby and the physical changes that will occur during puberty for boys and girls. Also featured The Other Side Of Sex. See for yourself some signs and symptoms of the common sexually transmitted diseases.
  • The Senior Spot emphasizes care of the elderly in the home and some elderly health concerns like dementia, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence and menopause. It also suggests ways to improve life in the golden years by remaining active, both physically and socially.
  • You’ve heard it before, and now come and experience them – the relaxation techniques - in the relaxation room of the Happiness Hall. Pick up tips on proper stress management and bring the peace and tranquility home with you.
  • Be aware of the link between unhealthy lifestyle habits and the various lifestyle-related diseases like heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and hypertension. Look at how these diseases affect the human organs on the giant size model at the Lifestyle and Diseases Area.

Health Studio / Health Studio Session

The Health Studio, on the other hand, is designed for participatory and interactive learning. Each studio is equipped with audio/video and state-of-the-art multimedia facilities including the SMART Board and the lessons offered provide an unique interactive learning environment for groups of students and adults for more in-depth exploration of health issues.

The Health Studio Sessions reinforce and build upon the information communicated in the exhibition area. They focus on the learning of practical skills necessary to make healthier choices and on health-promoting behaviour. The Health Studio Sessions are only offered to organised groups. These sessions are held in the Health Studios and they are conducted by trained health promotion personnel.
