The purpose of the visit is to understand the work of the Housing & Development Board (HDB) and its role in nation-building since its inception in 1960.
Comprising four showflats, ranging from 2-room to 5-room, the Habitat Forum shows the different flat types available to meet the needs of our customers. Incorporated with the latest Universal Design features, the showflats demonstrate that HDB housing caters to all ages with provisions such as ramps at selected locations, wider corridor and door widths, well-positioned switch sockets as well as space provisions for elderly-friendly fittings.

HDB was set up in 1960 to build homes for the people. Today, HDB has built more than 800,000 flats which now houses about 82% of the population. HDB is committed to providing quality housing and services to serve the changing needs of Singaporeans. Over the years, it has worked hard to keep up with the times. In 1991, it launched the "Design and Build" Scheme to allow private architects to design flats for HDB. More varieties were also made available in the creation of "Design Plus" flats in 1996, which featured more unique and innovative designs by HDB Architects. |
