The visit seeks to heighten students' awareness of the threat of drugs to our society. Because our economic well-being hinges on our population's productivity and innovation, any extensive use of drugs by Singaporeans will have serious economic repercussion. The visit will also make it clear that drug abuse can have grave implications on the crime situation as drug addicts are more likely to commit crimes. A permissive attitude to narcotics abuse can ultimately have a corrosive effect on politics as is the case in other countries.

The visit will also allow students to understand the strategies adopted by Singapore in the fight against drug abuse. In this battle, the Central Narcotics Bureau plays a central role. Not only is CNB the central enforcement agency with regards to drug abuse and trafficking, it has also been tasked to conduct preventive drug education programmes. It is critical that the public is made aware both of the harmful effects of drug abuse and the consequences they face if they are caught trafficking in controlled drugs. Through what it does, CNB has contributed to the success of Singapore.
