At the Battle Box, students can witness the last few days the British and other local volunteer force working closely here, before British Commander Lieutenant General Percival made a critical decision Surrender Singapore to the Japanese on 15 February 1942.
The presentation which recreates The Battle Box during Second World War II underground into a
historically interesting and fascinating as it also demonstrates how military operation was controlled and monitored.
Besides allowing students to savor a turning point in Singapore's history, students will leave the Battle Box with the message that war is inherently destructive; it can only be avoided if we have the will to build a deterrent force strong enough to prevent others from being tempted to attack us. Singaporeans must also be ready to defend the country on our own as others would not place as great an emphasis on the country's security as us.
